Secure Streets, Safe Communities: Join Mangere Bridge Volunteer

What we do

  • We use a non-confrontational approach.

  • By wearing high visibility vests or jackets, we aim to be highly visible and thus deter poor behaviour.

  • We keep our eyes open for untoward behaviour or events.

  • We report to the appropriate authority, e.g. Council, Police, Vector, SPCA, etc anything that needs attention.

  • We aim to do some education on handbag safety, pedestrian crossing safety, and car security. We do not wish to see anyone become a victim.

  • Follow us on Facebook.

What areas do we patrol?

There are four areas that we patrol:

  1. The Village shops

  2. The car park behind the ASB and TAB

  3. The Library, Gerry Preston Gym, Swanson Park and the surrounding car parks.

  4. Coronation Road down to the old Māngere Bridge and the park on the corner of Kiwi Esplanade

Mangere Bridge Foot Patrol

The Mangere Bridge Volunteer Community Patrol has been patrolling the streets of our beautiful suburb since October 1998. Our purpose has been to be the eyes and ears of the Police and our community Our aim is, by our presence, to help reduce crime and make our community a safer place to live.

At the end of May 2010 we launched a new initiative. In addition to the very successful Car Patrol we have established a Foot Patrol. This has been a great success. We would very much like to grow the Foot Patrol and put more patrols out on the Village streets. To do this we need more volunteers

Maritime Saftey Checks

The Mangere Bridge Community patrol carrying out safety checks at the all tide boat ramp at Māngere Bridge. There have been a number of drownings and incidents involving boaties not wearing life jackets using this public ramp. The ramp is subjected to a fast tidal flow which can create a hazardous situation for inexperienced boaties so patrolers are on hand to advise users of the hazards.
